About
Alabama Dance Theatre

Located in Montgomery at the Armory Learning Arts Center, Alabama Dance Theatre (ADT) is a distinguished regional ballet company with a longstanding commitment to artistic excellence. Since its founding in 1986, ADT has served as a cornerstone of the arts in Central Alabama, offering exceptional training and dynamic performance experiences.
ADT presents a diverse repertoire that spans classical, modern, and contemporary works—from treasured 19th-century ballets to original choreography. Each production reflects a commitment to thoughtful artistry, engaging audiences while honoring the depth and tradition of the art form.
At the heart of ADT is its dedication to pre-professional training. Rooted in classical ballet and influenced by the Russian syllabus, the program cultivates disciplined, versatile dancers through rigorous instruction and mentorship.
Beyond the stage, ADT actively engages the community through educational and outreach initiatives, fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts and expanding access to dance throughout the River Region.
We invite you to experience the artistry and tradition of Alabama Dance Theatre—and to witness the continued evolution of dance in our community.

Our Vision
To lead our community in the pursuit of artistic excellence — empowering dancers through rigorous training, inspiring audiences through powerful performance, and cultivating a lasting appreciation for the impact of dance.
Our Founding Artistic Director
Alabama Dance Theatre was founded in 1986 by Kitty Seale, whose vision and dedication established a lasting foundation for excellence in dance. A respected teacher, choreographer, and mentor for over four decades, she cultivated a program known throughout the region as a positive and disciplined training ground for young artists. Her commitment to both technical integrity and artistic growth continues to shape the identity of ADT today.
Throughout her career, Kitty Seale choreographed extensively and was selected to participate in the National Craft of Choreography Conferences. Under her leadership, Alabama Dance Theatre achieved Honor Company status with Regional Dance America/Southeast in 1992, a distinction the organization continues to uphold. Her students have gone on to receive national recognition, scholarships, and professional opportunities across the country.
A Montgomery native, Kitty’s contributions to the arts were recognized with numerous honors, including the Governor’s Arts Award and the Montgomery Advertiser’s Community Hero Award. Following her passing in 2019, her legacy continues through her daughter, Kate Seale Smith, who now leads the organization with the same commitment to excellence, artistry, and community that has defined ADT since its founding.

Looking Ahead
As Alabama Dance Theatre looks to the future, its mission remains rooted in growth, opportunity, and artistic excellence. The organization continues to expand its reach through innovative programming, dynamic performances, and a commitment to nurturing the next generation of dancers.
With each season, ADT strives to inspire, challenge, and elevate both its artists and its audience, ensuring a lasting impact for years to come.
Rooted in tradition and guided by vision, Alabama Dance Theatre continues to elevate the standard of dance in our community.
